Barter Exchange Can Increase Your Business

by Terry Lamb

Barter exchange really can help to increase your business, so don't think of it as a slight income loss. After all, it is called barter exchange because you do get something in return for the services you give away. When you are considering using barter exchange to meet new customers and build new business, start by reflecting on what you really need. When you trade services or products you will be happy with the deal if you get something that you really can use, or something you want.

If you are wanting to barter for goods and feel positive about it, you should identify the services and/or goods first. You may then decide what you are willing to give for these goods and their worth. There needs to be equal value among the items you are trading so therefore it will be a fair trade for both parties. You will feel at ease when the deal is made.

It's not unusual nowadays to be approached by those who want to use barter exchange as a commodity in doing business with you, particularly if you're in a service business. If potential customers do not show up at your doorstep, you must go out and find them. That's when the networking starts.

Don't be shy about calling on other business owners to ask about the possibility of using non-monetary trades to do business with them. The worst that can happen is they say no, meanwhile they have become introduced to the products or services you have to trade. If a potential barter partner says no, make sure they still get your business card and description of products and services you offer.

When you find someone willing to trade with you, then you have the perfect opportunity to introduce them to your products and services. Nurture their business just like you would a paying client. Give them the best of what you have to offer and, assuming they are happy with your products and services, they are going to be spreading the word.

Make sure you provide your bartering buddies lots of cards and information about you, your products and services to pass on to their clients. You might even want to give a small discount to their referrals. Make sure you remember the golden rule for getting referrals, and that is to give referrals, if you are happy with what you receive in the barter exchange, be sure to tell every one you know.
