Looking For PR?

by Marsha Friedman

Every company would like to sell more units and increase profits!after all, that's the nature of business! But if you want to sell, sell, sell, you need to first PR , PR , PR ! PR is a terrific way to give your company, product or service the local exposure that it deserves.

An absolutely terrific way of getting public relations is by using print. To believe that just writing a press release will get you in USA Today is incorrect. The issue is that if the newspaper or magazine is not fond of your press release, they won't put in onto their pages. Friedman , Chief Executive Officer of Event Management Services, Inc. , a national PR firm says "Press releases are not the only way to get coverage in print. " Here Friedman will reveal the 4 tips to get your name in print !

1. Pen a "How to" Article. "This is a pretty fantastic way to get free PR in print publications ", says Friedman . " Don't forget to pack it with oodles of useful information and make sure that you take your time and make it as professional as possible. That way they can publish it immediately without editing. To a busy journalist this is an absolute godsend. Many publications don't have large staffs and so they depend on articles of freelance writers to fill their pages."

" For example, if you're a mortgage broker write an article with 10 tips about getting the best mortgage available", adds Friedman . Make sure to you're your tips brief and no more than 3 sentences. The media loves these tips because they can reprint them as an article or as a 'side-bar' to a longer story.

Writing not a strong point? Friedman says, "If you are not a great writer then find a great one and hire them! " Any articles that you get published will add to your expert status, so include useful bio information. Friedman adds, "Lots of newspapers and magazine will add boastful info just to make sure they can use your article. " 2. Author an Opinion Letter Friedman says, " Take a stand on a controversial issue or comment on an issue in the news and send it to the Editor of your local daily paper - or to Opinion Editors at newspapers around the country. Don't forget to put your credentials at the bottom of the letter so you get the recognition of being a published expert."

3. Create Photo Opportunities Local newspapers are always looking for interesting photos and images. " Locally, create a special event - a fundraiser, an art show, a local or national contest", says Friedman . " Don't forget to invite the press! Don't worry if they blow you off, you can still send them through any photos you took. Just make sure to do it while it can still be considered a hot news story. "

4. Recycle Your Print Coverage Friedman says, " Turn one media hit into multiple hits by sending a reprint of a weekly newspaper story about you or your company to an editor at a daily newspaper, along with a pitch letter offering an angle different from the angle the weekly pursued." If you have daily newspaper clippings, send them on to national newspapers and magazines. Send articles in trade publications to editors anywhere. Get your article and throw it up on your website. " Get the most mileage as possible out of every story!" says Friedman .
