Bump Proof Lock - The Importance Of Protecting Your Family

by Rex Freiberger

You may believe that your family is adequately protected when all the doors in your home are locked. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The greatest danger in the world of lock security is lock bumping. Bump keys allow every door in your entire neighborhood to be unlocked or even opened almost soundlessly in less than a minute. Pin tumbler locks that are used by many people in America are powerless against lock bumping.

Our locking system is so old and out-of-date. It was originated during the civil war. Bump keys were originally discovered during the 1970's by a small circle of locksmiths in Denmark. It was only a matter of time before the practice of lock bumping would reach America and other countries with the introduction of the internet. There is a resolution to protect yourself and your family against lock bumping. The bump proof locks are now available. All you need to do is replace your old pin tumbler locks with new high security locks.

Lock bumping keys present a new danger to the perceived security of a conventional mechanical lock. Lock bumping keys are easily and quickly made. A skilled intruder can use a lock bumping key to unlock and open the doors to your home or business in a matter of seconds, granting easy access to your valuables.

You don't need to spend $200 to $500 for a bump proof lock as your local locksmith can make your standard lock, a bump proof lock for a few dollars. A new safety product that prevents Bump Key intrusions or any lock picking tool from unlocking a homeowner's security device has been launched.

There are bump keys that will open all locks. A bump key is like a normal key filed down to the very lowest level in all channels. Such a key will open any pin tumbler lock in a few seconds thus allowing the burglar entrance into your home.

It is just common sense that the more a lock costs, it is probably harder to open. A higher priced lock will be easier turned after a bump as they are made of hardened steel, and with accuracy a must when they are machined, they will hold up during a bump. For bump key prevention, you would be better off purchasing a less expensive lock for less resistance to a knock.

Even if you feel secure by locking your doors, it could take less than a minute to open your home with a technique called lock bumping. A bump key can unlock conventional mechanical locks in a matter of seconds and the key itself is easily made. But there are bump key prevention systems on the market. A local locksmith can convert a standard lock into a bump proof lock, effectively preventing lock bumping. Do not think an expensive lock will necessarily be safer, they might actually be more susceptible to lock picking because they are more durable.
